Voting is an act of resistance. This Tuesday, September 12th, is the primary election when New Yorkers go to the polls to elect City Council Persons, Civil Court Judges, Mayor, Public Advocate, and, here in Brooklyn, the District Attorney. These folks make decisions about civil rights, immigrant justice, religious freedom, climate change, policing, the rights of formerly incarcerated people, and affordable housing. I trust you are making plans to run to the polls because you understand that voting is an act of resistance.
Our partners at Faith in New York share the following deplorable statistic on their website: "Did you know only 8% of all city residents voted in the 2013 citywide primary election? As people of faith and as voters, we must unite across NYC to ensure that all decision makers work for us and follow our agenda, not the other way around." Our failure to have a voting plan means we, most likely, will not vote. Read the Faith Over Fear Voting Guides, make a plan, and make voting in the primary elections part of your Tuesday.
I'm excited to see you on Sunday at 11:00 am when we return to our later worship time and our scripture focus will be the creation of the world. We are either creating the beloved world we want or we are not. Don't sit this election out. Let's create something true to our values and our faith. See you Sunday.

Focus on Hunger
The Mission and Social Action Committee has a goal to educate the entire congregation on the issues around food and hunger in our country and around the world, and why First Presbyterian is involved in alleviating the suffering associated with a lack of food.
Volunteers needed Wednesday evenings from 7:15 PM - 8:00 PM to receive fresh fruits and vegetables for our food pantry. If you are available to come to First Church Brooklyn and receive donations from our partners at Brooklyn Bridge CSA and Sweet Pea CSA, please call the church office to be connected to pantry coordinator, Jane Woland.

help of 10 volunteers.

Clark Street Subway Station Closure
The Clark Street (2 and 3 trains) subway station will be closed on weekends until Spring 2018. People who normally take the subway to First Church need to walk from Borough Hall or take the B25, B26, B38, B41, B52 or B103 bus.

CHILDREN, YOUTH, and FAMILIES (CYF)
Sunday School is on hiatus for the summer and will resume Sunday, September 10th. All God's children will worship together throughout the summer. The nursery remains open to provide wee care to children 4 and under. Biblical based books and crayons are available for people of all ages on the bookshelf in the narthex. Help yourself to materials, and thank you in advance for returning them, so that others may enjoy them in the future.

Brooklyn Rock and Roll Half Marathon Training
Brooklyn Samaritans group runs are Mondays at 7:00 PM and Saturdays at 8:00 AM.
Meet at Grand Army Plaza (park entrance) this Saturday, September 2nd, and the church Peace Garden on Monday, September 4.
You need not run the marathon to train. Walkers encouraged to join the group. All are welcome to train.

- Administrative Support: Ongoing administrative support has been provided by Jane and Dave Ehlke. The Project Connect database has been expanded to 225 members in 30 different prisons.
