Greetings First Church Family and Friends,
Many people long to pray well. What is available in Matthew's gospel this week is a model for prayer that addresses that very longing, but it may not be what you think. More than the right words, more than flowery speech, Jesus suggests that the launch pad for prayer is proximity to God, intimate relationship…snuggling up. Prayer begins not with eloquent verbal gymnastics but a tight bond with God – getting close to the holy will center our time together this week.
On this Communion Sunday, we welcome your non-perishable protein items for our food pantry that is available to you after worship if you need food. We welcome your support of our Tamale Benefit for the Eastern Farm Worker's Association. We welcome you to bring a dish or drink to share at the People's Supper Potluck following worship, and we welcome your prayers for prosperity, joy and good fortune in this Lunar New Year of the pig.

Sunday Morning Adult Discussion Group

Join Conor Foley and the 10:00 AM discussion group for a five-week series which will be engaging the theology of Scripture by looking at what Scripture has meant to our forebears in the faith. From the authors of later Scripture who were interpreting earlier texts, to the earliest communities to receive these sacred texts, through the early Church leaders, up through contemporary racial, economic, and gender lenses, we will look at all the ways that the Bible has become Scripture for faithful communities.

Pain can be universal, yet healing is often uniquely singular. Leaders from the Visible Ink writing program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn (Rev Adriene Thorne) will gather for a frank and humane discussion, moderated by Jeff Tang of Peoplmovr, about healing, recovery, and faith.

served 44 guests with the help of 10 awesome volunteers.

WINTER OUTERWEAR DONATION DRIVE
The Social Action Committee is collecting winter outerwear through the 2018-19 cold weather season. Please consider donations of clean (new or gently used) outerwear for any age and size -- coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, boots -- and leave them on a back pew, on the right side of the sanctuary, as you enter from the rear. Sunday School Teachers Needed
Sunday school is underway for years K-5. We are still looking for volunteers to serve as teachers in the classroom. NO WEEKLY PREP. (Rev. April takes care of all of that!) Just show up and be with kids! If interested please email Rev. April.
