Greetings First Church Family and Friends,
This Sunday, we close out our Deeper Dive, Summer Soul Series. I hope you have felt invited to take growing up in faith into your own hands. I hope you are better resourced for the difficult times that come with living life. I hope you have fallen in love with the Bible, prayer, generosity, stillness and silence, and one another.
- Remember the Be Still and Know chant and the power of meditating on the presence of God.
- Don't forget the power of scripture. Read your bible daily. Commit encouraging verses to heart.
- Keep in mind the words of Jenny Gage who helped us see that our need and our ability to receive are the start of being the generous people we long to be.
- Know that prayer and fasting look different for different people and that is okay.
All these practices help us to create Christian community and help us to love our community more than we love our dream of community. On Sunday we will consider what it means to be minister to and for one another. Bring your snorkels! We're diving in!

PS Sunday will be my last day in the pulpit before heading off for a week of study and then some vacation. I will return to the pulpit on Sunday, September 8th and hope you will continue to support our faith community in my absence. Summer Worship Schedule
Worship will begin at 10:00 AM through September 1st. The choir gathers Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM. There are no Thursday choir rehearsals.
Adult Bible Study, Sunday School, and Youth Choir will be on hiatus for the summer, resuming September 8th.

National Night Out Against Crime
Join the NYPD and city officials at more than 70 locations citywide on National Night Out Against Crime, Tuesday, August 6th, 2019 at 5:00 pm. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships to help make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. It seeks to strengthen the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement, fostering a true sense of community.
Our 84th precinct details are below:
Location: Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier 5, barbeque area
Time: 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM -- Meet at the church at 4:45 to walk over together
Activities: Face painting, ice cream, barbeque, DJ, crime prevention information

Last Sunday the Eastern Farm Workers Association celebrated its 47th Anniversary at the Boys and Girls Club of Bellport, Long Island.
Invitations to the event asked that celebrants "...join Suffolk County farm workers and other low-paid workers in celebrating 47 years of victories in our determined struggle to build a strong self-help organization and eradicate poverty forever."
In his opening remarks, EFWA Director Joel Biddle thanked the many people and institutions who have contributed to the success of the EFWA in the last year, including First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn for the congregation's gift of purchased work boots, jeans and donated clothing, to farm workers in one of the Bellport's nearby farm camps.
Later, Joel and members of the all-volunteer staff, cut a celebratory cake. In the photo are, from left to right, EFWA Assistant Director Alana Echlin, Director Joel Biddle, and Administrative Assistants Clifford Cody and Dean Adams.

If you need food assistance
Our food pantry, located at the church entrance, is open every Sunday after service. Our volunteers are ready to support you. Please stop by.
On Thursday, August 1st, our pantry served 128 guests with the help of 22 fantastic volunteers.
