| Greetings First Church Brooklyn Family and Friends, We knew law enforcement would shoot another Black person; we just did not know it would be this week. An armed white man shot and killed two Black people at the protests that followed. He is still at large. How is it possible to murder Black people and walk away?!! The NYPD union endorsed Donald Trump's reelection campaign. Our tax dollars support a police force here to protect and serve, but they endorse a man who called white supremacists, "very fine people." If you've not filled out your census form, I hope you are motivated now. The numbers collected affect our representation in government and determine how billions of dollars in federal funding gets spent. If you are not registered to vote, what are you waiting for?!!! Get registered and get those mail-in ballots at vote.org. We are the bodies of Christ in the world, and we must not flag in our determination to make this a world on earth as it is in heaven. On Sunday we worship with the Presbytery of New York City from Holmes Presbyterian Camp. Find worship on their Facebook page, and meet us virtually on their beautiful upstate NY campus. Food Pantry 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM On Thursday, August 27th, our pantry served 108 clients with the help of 8 volunteers. We will maintain the bins on the church steps to support the food insecure and the homeless population who have benefitted from the offering. If you need food, please help yourself. If you have food to share, thank you for dropping off. Please contact the church office to inquire about volunteering. | Project Connect Men and women in prisons can go for years, even decades without any contact from the outside. Through Project Connect they can reach out to request letters and visits This program is run by the Church of Gethsemane and we are their partners. Therefore I am asking you to write a couple of lines of hope and encouragement and email them to me (sarahjwyss@gmail.com). I will cut and paste them into a letter that will be photocopied and sent to many people. Anything is appreciated, a couple of lines of poetry, a Bible verse, or simply some words of hope and encouragement. Our letters mean a lot to people and particularly now when other contact with the outside world is limited. -- Sarah Wyss |
