| Free Summer Meals This summer, any New Yorker can get free "grab & go" meals across the city Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. - No registration, documentation, or ID is required to receive a free breakfast or lunch.
- Vegetarian meals are available at all locations.
- Kosher and Halal meals are available at select locations
- All meals are Grab and Go, which means they cannot be consumed on site.
- To find locations, dates, and times near you, visit schools.nyc.gov/summermeals. You can also get information on summer meals by calling 311 or texting "NYCMEALS" to 877-877 (text messaging and data rates may apply).

| Presbyterian Week of Action: August 23-29 
This year's theme is Shades of Oppression, Resistance, & Liberation. The week's events and theme are crafted to bring attention and action to the plight of those suffering from differing forms of oppressive situations. The foci for the week will be: Monday - International Tuesday – Plight of Poverty Wednesday- LGBTQIA Resilience Thursday - Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women Friday – AAPI Hate Saturday – Black Lives Matter (in conjunction with Giving 828) Sunday - Gun Violence/Mass Shootings The goal this year is to be even more inclusive of the wider denomination in the planning process as well as the implementation. Events will be both virtual and potentially in person. The Week of Action has at its core the idea of being a visible arm of justice in our communities around the denomination as we stand on the foundations of both Matthew 25 and the Hands & Feet Initiative. |

Food Pantry Serving Thursday, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM On Thursday, August 5th, our pantry served 134 clients with the help of 11 volunteers. We are maintaining food bins and a community fridge at the church to provide round the clock support to the food insecure and unhoused. If you need food, please help yourself. If you have food to share, thank you for dropping off. Volunteers are welcome to arrive on Thursdays between 9:00-11:00 am to serve in the pantry. No advanced notice required. | Employment Opportunity! The Leadership Team for Ecumenical Advocacy Days is looking to hire a Conference Coordinator for the 2022 Virtual Conference. Ecumenical Advocacy Days is hiring a Conference Coordinator for the 2022 Virtual Advocacy Days event. The Conference Coordinator will build on the dynamic tradition established by previous annual meetings and be committed to facilitating an ongoing exploration of ways to make the 2022 event and future conferences even more exciting and powerful, with the goal of expanding our impact on the domestic and international policies we address. Experience in working with ecumenical relations and faith-based organizations, and a working knowledge of the denominational church world and familiarity with Christian theology is a plus. The EAD Conference Coordinator is a contracted position from September 1, 2021, through May 31st, 2022, with the possibility of an extension for future conferences as the budget allows and the contractual payment for this period is within the range of $55,000 – $70,000, depending on experience. | Men's Fellowship Book Discussion First Church's Men's Group meet in person every Wednesday morning from 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM. They gather at Park Plaza Diner, 220 Cadman Plaza West where they will discuss what they are reading and, if time allows, solve as many of the world's problems as possible. We are currently discussing: The Bomber Mafia: A Dream, a Temptation, and the Longest Night of the Second World War by Malcolm Gladwell  In The Bomber Mafia, Malcolm Gladwell weaves together the stories of a Dutch genius and his homemade computer, a band of brothers in central Alabama, a British psychopath, and pyromaniacal chemists at Harvard to examine one of the greatest moral challenges in modern American history.
Most military thinkers in the years leading up to World War II saw the airplane as an afterthought. But a small band of idealistic strategists, the "Bomber Mafia," asked: What if precision bombing could cripple the enemy and make war far less lethal?
In contrast, the bombing of Tokyo on the deadliest night of the war was the brainchild of General Curtis LeMay, whose brutal pragmatism and scorched-earth tactics in Japan cost thousands of civilian lives, but may have spared even more by averting a planned US invasion. In The Bomber Mafia, Gladwell asks, "Was it worth it?"
Things might have gone differently had LeMay's predecessor, General Haywood Hansell, remained in charge. Hansell believed in precision bombing, but when he and Curtis LeMay squared off for a leadership handover in the jungles of Guam, LeMay emerged victorious, leading to the darkest night of World War II. The Bomber Mafia is a riveting tale of persistence, innovation, and the incalculable wages of war.
