Loose Ends “One problem is expecting the ends without the means: expecting knowledge…without searching the scriptures and consulting with the people of God, or expecting spiritual strength without constant prayer and steady watchfulness…” John Wesley, 1703-1791, Methodist founder. This next week we start a new year, a new church program year. Choir starts again. Children’s Church School starts again. Session meetings and committee meetings once again begin. It’s a natural time to look again at what foundation we have and need to have in order to do the things that are to be done. What will we do today? Will it include prayer, meditation, scripture, fasting or some other spiritual practice? What do we need for the long haul? We feel busy, tired, and overwhelmed, with good reason. Let’s take a moment, several moments today if we dare, to connect with the peace, assurance, wisdom, and strength of God who loves us. And lean on that love for the year to come with more prayer, meditation, worship and spiritual practices. Start now! O Merciful God…. |

Looking for Food and Fellowship Volunteers First Church Brooklyn serves a Sunday fellowship lunch once each month at the Church of the Gethsemane, our sister Presbyterian church in Park Slope, Brooklyn, whose members are mostly formerly incarcerated. First Church volunteers prepare a meal, either at home or at the church's kitchen, attend worship at 11:00 AM, and serve lunch after service to approximately 15-20 congregants. It's a wonderful opportunity to make good food and even better friends. We are looking for volunteers for September and the rest of 2026, on whatever Sunday works for you. Food Pantry Serving Thursday, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM 
On Thursday, September 3rd, our pantry served 84 clients and 16 volunteers with help from YAI. According to the 2023 edition of the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report, between 691 and 783 million people faced hunger in 2022, representing an increase of 122 million people compared to 2019. Volunteers are welcome to arrive on Thursdays between 8:00 and 11:00 AM to serve in the pantry. No advance notice is required. Please contact the church office to inquire about volunteering. We look forward to serving with you.

Join Brooklyn Youth Chorus, Right Here at
First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn Dear Friends, We're excited to share that Brooklyn Youth Chorus offers classes right here at First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn, and we'd love to welcome your children to join us. Classes are held on Tuesdays:
- Prep I (ages 7-9): 4:00-5:00 PM
- Prep II (ages 10-12): 5:15-6:15 PM
How Children Join Brooklyn Youth Chorus
- Auditions: Children ages 7 and up participate in a placement audition. These are warm, low-pressure, and require no preparation. They simply help us get to know your child's voice.
- Placement: Choristers are placed by age into one of our Training Divisions, and then into a musical-ability section within that division so they're learning in the environment that best supports their growth.
- Financial Aid: We offer robust financial aid, and families can apply once they receive their placement and registration details. We never want tuition to be a barrier.

The membership committee has been hard at work to develop a congregational directory that will contain regular attendees, members, elders, staff, and online attenders. We are looking to have it represent the entire body of the church and those who bring life to this dynamic congregation. Right now, we have a draft! Men's Fellowship MEN’S READING GROUP RE-EMERGES
We invite you guys to join us this coming Wednesday (September 9th) as we reboot our reading group. We will gather at 8:00 am at the Grand Canyon Restaurant on Montague Street. A very interesting and highly- heralded book will be discussed and considered for our next reading challenge: “The Breakup” by Kurt Andersen. Other nominations are encouraged.
