Greetings First Church Family and Friends,
We continue our preaching series this week on the Ten Words with guest preacher, Rev. Ana Levy-Lyons. Ana is the senior pastor at the First Unitarian Congregational Society on Pierrepont Street and author of the recently published book, No Other Gods: The Politics of the Ten Commandments. We are blessed to have her leading the 10:00 AM education study on Sunday and preaching the sermon. You will not want to miss her perspective on humanity as beings made in the divine image, particularly as children continue to be separated from families at the border and as we celebrate LGBTQ+ children of God this Pride Sunday.
If you have not heard, immediately following worship, we will enjoy our annual all church BBQ. If you are willing to miss worship and work the grill, we need you. If you have a specialty side dish to contribute, we need you. If you have gifts of cleaning up after the party is over, we really need you. This wonderful BBQ happens every year because we all pitch in. Thank you for being a part of the fun!
Summer is officially here this week, and we will move to 10:00 AM worship beginning next Sunday, July 1st — my two-year anniversary with you and Petal's birthday. Join us for a special coffee hour in the garden that day celebrating both events.

Rev. Ana Levy-Lyons serves as senior minister of First Unitarian Congregational Society in Brooklyn. She is the author of No Other Gods: The Politics of the Ten Commandments (Hachette, 2018), a new book that reintroduces the Ten Commandments as practices for spiritual liberation and political resistance (for more info: www.analevylyons.com). Rev. Ana is a contributing editor for Tikkun magazine and is currently writing a guide to preaching about climate change and ecological consciousness with the Center for Earth Ethics and Climate Reality Project. She lives with her husband Jeff and seven-year-old twins, Miriam and Micah, on the upper west side of Manhattan.

Summer Worship Schedule: Worship will begin at 10:00 AM starting July 1st through September 2nd. During the Summer Worship schedule, the choir gathers Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM. There is no Thursday rehearsal.

All-Church Summer Book Read
This summer, we are reading Marcus Borg's book, Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time. Pick up a copy of this book that addresses the yearnings of those who want a fully contemporary faith that welcomes rather than oppresses our critical intelligence and openness to the best of historical scholarship. Borg shows how a rigorous examination of historical findings can lead to a new faith in Christ, one that is critical, and at the same time, sustaining. Read on your own over the summer, and plan to join us for two book parties on September 5th and 19th at 6:30 PM.

Pride Sunday - June 24th
Guest preacher, Rev. Ana Levy-Lyons, Senior Pastor of the First Unitarian Congregational Society in Brooklyn will be our guest preacher. Rev. Levy-Lyons will continue our series on the Ten Commandments having just released her new book, The Ten Commandments: A Radical Manifesto for the 21st Century. Rev. Levy-Lyons will also lead our Christian Education gathering before worship at 10:00 AM in the Thurman Library. Please join her!

For the first time ever, members of First Church Brooklyn participated in the Brooklyn Pride Parade on Saturday, June 9th. Elder Patrick Tirino, Clerk of Session, marched with Rev. Adriene and others, including friends from the Brooklyn Community Pride Center.

EASTERN FARM WORKERS' URGENT NEEDS
Our Social Action partners, the Eastern Farm Workers Association, has sent a letter to Erik Brogger. The letter (see below) details some of the emergency needs of our farmers on Long Island, whose work season is beginning now. Please consider if you can provide any of the requested items, and/or electric fans for their living quarters. Donated items should be left on the rear sanctuary pews near the side garden entrance, at any time the church office is open, or on Sunday mornings. On Thursday, June 21st, our Food Pantry served 105 guests
with the help of 14 outstanding volunteers.

The Men's group meet at 7:30 AM in the Park Plaza Restaurant on Cadman Plaza West. The group is currently reading, "Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community" by Martin Luther King, Jr.

Clark Street Subway Station Closure
The Clark Street (2 and 3 trains) subway station will be closed on weekends until Summer 2018. People who normally take the subway to First Church need to walk from Borough Hall or take the B25, B26, B38, B41, B52 or B103 bus.
