Greetings First Church Family and Friends,
In the face of family separations and a racist Muslim ban, we continue to stand on the love of God. We embrace the Ten Words of God as promise and we return to the gift of sermon that Rev. Ana Levy-Lyons offered us last week. In God's commands are a blueprint for loving our neighbor and a reminder that Jesus cares. Jesus cares about us and he cares about our neighbors, often through us. Keep marching this Saturday and in the days to come, keep praying every evening at 6 pm for a change in our country, keep taking exquisite care of yourselves in order to ride the waves of resistance that are yours to ride. You can't do it all, but you must do something.
As many of our families prepare to spend time with loved ones this summer, we invite you to take Flat Jesus with you wherever you go. In the lighthearted spirit of children, Flat Jesus is a reminder to us all that Jesus is with us this summer at camp or on that business trip. Jesus is also with the babies in detention centers and the Muslim family members trapped on the wrong side of an arbitrary border. Jesus said, "Lo, I am with you always." Pick Jesus up this Sunday in the church entrance and keep him tucked in your wallet, purse or book. Take a photo with him wherever you travel over the next few weeks and send your photos to info@firstchurchbrooklyn.org. We would love to share them on the church's Facebook page and stay connected with you wherever in the world you might be.

Summer Worship Schedule: Worship will begin at 10:00 AM starting July 1st through September 2nd. During the Summer Worship schedule, the choir gathers Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM. There is no Thursday rehearsal. Summer Choir is open to all, if you've been considering joining.
The following weekly activities will be on hiatus for the summer:

A Panel Discussion on Supporting Immigrants and Refugees
Rutgers Presbyterian Church (W. 73rd and Broadway)
Panelists will address the current situation facing immigrants and refugees and ways that individuals and congregations can respond. A representative of the New Sanctuary Coalition will speak to the context in which we live and the work they are doing and how congregations and individuals can support that work. Congregations and other organizations are being invited to speak about how they are responding to provide models and opportunities for engagement.

All-Church Summer Book Read
This summer, we are reading Marcus Borg's book, Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time. Pick up a copy of this book that addresses the yearnings of those who want a fully contemporary faith that welcomes rather than oppresses our critical intelligence and openness to the best of historical scholarship. Borg shows how a rigorous examination of historical findings can lead to a new faith in Christ, one that is critical, and at the same time, sustaining. Read on your own over the summer, and plan to join us for two book parties on September 5th and 19th at 6:30 PM.

For the first time ever, members of First Church Brooklyn participated in the Brooklyn Pride Parade on Saturday, June 9th. Elder Patrick Tirino, Clerk of Session, marched with Rev. Adriene and others, including friends from the Brooklyn Community Pride Center.

The Men's group meet at 7:30 AM in the Park Plaza Restaurant on Cadman Plaza West. The group is currently reading, "Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community" by Martin Luther King, Jr.

Clark Street Subway Station Closure
The Clark Street (2 and 3 trains) subway station will be closed on weekends until Summer 2018. People who normally take the subway to First Church need to walk from Borough Hall or take the B25, B26, B38, B41, B52 or B103 bus.
