| | Light "The Lord is my light, my light and salvation. In God I trust. In God I trust." These words from Psalm 27 have been shaped into a popular chant that is sung in the Taizé community ( https://www.taize.fr/en/), a Protestant religious community in France. In times of darkness, especially, this chant reminds us of the light of Christ that is still in and active in the world. This light guides us in our relationships, that they may be gracious and merciful, open to reconciliation, and rooted in the agape love that Jesus lived among us. This light shines in the darkness to bring hope and dignity to a world in turmoil. And this light assures us that God is at work even now, inviting us to come and lay down our burdens even as we join Christ in living the good news. Dear Interested Gardeners: You are invited to a meeting on Saturday, March 21st at 11:00 a.m. in the Peace Garden. The goal is to assess the garden's needs after the damage from the blizzard and to share whether you plan to volunteer this year. If you are available, we plan to work for approximately one to two hours after our brief discussion over coffee and soda bread. Looking forward to seeing all who can join us. Looking for Food and Fellowship Volunteers First Church Brooklyn serves a Sunday fellowship lunch once each month at the Church of the Gethsemane, our sister Presbyterian church in Park Slope, Brooklyn, whose members are mostly formerly incarcerated. First Church volunteers prepare a meal, either at home or at the church's kitchen, attend worship at 11:00AM, and serve lunch after service to approximately 15-20 congregants. It's a wonderful opportunity to make good food and even better friends. We are looking for volunteers for March and the rest of 2026, on whatever Sunday works for you. Food Pantry Serving Thursday, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM 
On Thursday, March 19th, our pantry served 90 clients with the help of 11 volunteers. According to the 2023 edition of the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report, between 691 and 783 million people faced hunger in 2022, representing an increase of 122 million people compared to 2019. Volunteers are welcome to arrive on Thursdays between 8:00 and 11:00 AM to serve in the pantry. No advanced notice is required. Please contact the church office to inquire about volunteering. We look forward to serving with you. |
