Greetings First Church Family and Friends,
I’m grateful for Elder Dimitri Moise, who is doing the holy labor this Sunday of standing and proclaiming the word of God. Preaching is no small undertaking, so I hope you will keep Elder Moise in prayer as he seeks to be faithful to the word God has given him for our community of faith.
We couldn’t do the holy work of God at First Church Brooklyn without each one of you – singing, praying feeding and yes, preaching. As you enjoy these final summer days in Brooklyn, or wherever you are in the world, know that God blesses the work of your hands and the work of our collective hands. Thank you for the ways your holy labor honors our holy God.

Elder Dimitri Joseph Moïse
Dimitri Joseph Moïse (Pronunciation: MOY-eez) is a lifelong activist, actor, and award-winning editor dedicated to the liberation of all people by prioritizing intersectionality and societal systemic justice. They are a national HIV advocate, helping renew the lives of people across the world through storytelling and healthcare advocacy. As an actor, they have been seen on stage and on screen in The Book of Mormon, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, and POSE. They are also the founder of the company S.P.L. INC, focused on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. They have been featured in GQ, Teen Vogue, Them magazine, Healthline, HIV Plus magazine, Good Morning America, and more. Dimitri is part of our stellar choir and an Elder here at First Presbyterian Church.

The safety of our congegants is our main priority. Plans are being made and put in place to assure we adhere to NYC Covid regulations. Handsanitizing units were installed throughout the church. There will also be stations set up to sanitize your hands.
Throughout the pandemic we have been maintaining food bins and we now a community fridge at the church to provide round the clock support to the food insecure and unhoused. If you need food, please help yourself. If you have food to share, thank you for dropping off.
A church wide cleanup took place on August 7th to help prepare the sanctuary for in person services. It was true nastalgia being back in the sanctuary reminizing and cathing up with fellow congregants as the sanctuary was brought back to life.

Interfaith 9-11 Observance on the Promenade
The Brooklyn Heights Interfaith Clergy Association (BHICA) needs volunteers to staff a table on the Promenade, at the end of Montague St. We will offer supplies (pens, card stock paper, tie ribbons) to allow walkers to stop by during the day (8:30 AM - 7 PM) and leave a written prayer or message tied to the fence. This has been a popular offering in recent years.
We need two volunteers per 30-minute shifts who can hand out supplies. Please sign up here if you can take a shift during the day on Saturday, September 11. The Interfaith Service will be at 7:15 PM.

Men's Fellowship Book Discussion
First Church's Men's Group meet in person every Wednesday morning from 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM. They gather at Park Plaza Diner, 220 Cadman Plaza West where they will discuss what they are reading and, if time allows, solve as many of the world's problems as possible. We are currently discussing:

Our world is changing daily, and yet we still believe in the power of prayer. We still desire to pray with and for our community. We will add prayers to our worship bulletin each week and keep your prayers in our hearts and on our lips for the week to come.

Food Pantry 
Serving Thursday, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
On Thursday, September 2nd, our pantry served 135 clients with the help of 10 volunteers.
We are maintaining food bins and a community fridge at the church to provide round the clock support to the food insecure and unhoused. If you need food, please help yourself. If you have food to share, thank you for dropping off.
Volunteers are welcome to arrive on Thursdays between 9:00-11:00 am to serve in the pantry. No advanced notice required. Please contact the church office to inquire about volunteering. We look forward to serving with you.
